“First, these laws were passed without taking farmers into confidence. And then despite protests across India and farmers camping near Delhi for last two months, they've been extremely casual in dealing with them. Many police officials were injured in the violent clashes with the agitating farmers which witnessed breaking the barricades laid by the police, rash driving, vandalising of police vehicles by the farmer groups and the use of tear gas and water cannons in retaliation, by the Delhi Police.

Incidentally, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has always opposed the Agriculture Act. The Trinamool delegation went to stand by the agitating farmers on the Singhu border. On Republic Day, the Chief Minister blamed the central government for the worrying situation.
