CPI(M), Congress to hold mega joint rally in West Bengal

The CPI(M) and the Congress on Thursday (January 7) decided to organise a mega joint rally at the Brigade Parade ground in Kolkata.

The decision of the rally was taken by the two parties when they sat for a meeting to discuss the seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Bengal polls.

Though the parties have not yet fixed the date for the rally, central leaders of both parties, including former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, are likely to attend the rally.

Left Front chairperson Biman Bose said, “We are contesting the Assembly elections by forming an alliance with the Congress. Therefore, we will stand on the same platform to address the people. As per the discussion in the meeting, the Brigade rally will be held at the end of February or early in March.”

The Congress High Command and the central leadership of constituent parties of the Left Front have given permission to their state units for a seat-sharing arrangement.

In the 2016 Assembly elections, the LF-Congress alliance won 76 seats, with the Congress winning 44 seats and the Front emerging victorious in only 32 constituencies.
