Coronavirus: India reports 35,662 new cases, recovery rate at 97.65 per cent

India set a new record for single-day vaccinations on Friday, with almost 2.5 crore doses delivered in the last 24 hours as the government hurried to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday deadline.

In the previous 24 hours, India recorded 35,662 new coronavirus infections, slightly more than the 34,403 cases reported the day before. In addition, the overall number of deaths has risen to 4,44,529, according to the health ministry. 

The active caseload is 3,40,639, accounting for 1.02 per cent of the total number of cases. The overall number of recoveries grew by 33,798 in the previous 24 hours, bringing the total to 3,26,32,222. Currently, the recovery rate is at 97.65%.

Of all the tallies, Kerala continued to bear the biggest brunt, registering 23,260 new cases and 131 deaths. According to the government, more than 78.02 crore (78,02,17,775) vaccination doses have been distributed to states and union territories free of charge and through direct state purchase. In addition, almost 33 lakh doses (33,08,560) were in the works.
