Chennai rains: Heavy rainfall leaves city battered, several parts including arterial roads inundated

 The northeast monsoon has arrived in Tamil Nadu as parts of the state received heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms on Thursday in the wee hours of morning.

Chennai woke up to a typical monsoon day with overcast skies and intermittent rain that led to waterlogging in some areas.

The Meteorological Department has forecast that the rain over the city and neighbouring districts will continue for the next three hours.

Many arterial roads of the city including Wall Tax Road, Chennai Central and Anna Salai witnessed people wading through water.
