Central government grants Rs 900 crore for East-West Metro project

The Union Budget 2021 increased allocation of East-West Metro. Although Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman did not say anything about this, this information has been given on the relevant website after the presentation of the budget. It has been informed that the allocation for this project for the next financial year is 900 crore rupees.
 

The East-West Metro proposal from Salt Lake Sector Five to Howrah Maidan via Sealdah, Boubazar, Laldighi was approved in 2008. But the complexity is created by building a new station near the old Metro's Central Station.

However, the metro is already running from Sector Five to Phulbagan in the first phase. On the other hand, the Union Cabinet has approved a budget of Rs 8,575 crore in October 2019.

Metro officials estimate that the metro will run up to Sealdah within this year. The full route from Salt Lake Sector Five to Howrah Maidan will be operational by March next year.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget on Monday (February 1). Although she did not say anything about the metro project, she mentioned that she would extend the long railway line, including roads.
