Mamata Banerjee visits nephew Abhishek’s residence just before CBI investigation

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday (February 23) visited the residence of her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, ahead of the CBI examination of his wife in the coal theft case.
 

Mamata Banerjee was there in the house of Abhishek Banerjee for about 10 minutes. The CBI arrived at TMC MP’s just minutes after Mamata Banerjee left.

Rujira Banerjee, the wife of Abhishek, had replied to the CBI's notice in the alleged coal smuggling case and asked the central agency to send its team to her residence for examination between 11 am and 3 pm on Tuesday.

On Sunday (February 21), the CBI had served notices to Abhishek’s wife, Rujira, and sister-in-law Menaka Gambhir, in connection with the alleged case.

On Tuesday, Mamata Banerjee suddenly visited the residence of Abhishek Banerjee at 11:23 am. At exactly 11:33 am, Mamata came out of the house holding Abhishek's daughter's hand. Within minutes of Mamata's departure, officials from the Central Investigation Agency arrived at Abhishek's home.

According to sources, there are eight people in the investigation team. Three of them are lawyers. Rujira's statement may be video recorded. Sources said that inquiries will also be made about the issues related to Bangkok's account and transactions.

On the CBI notices, TMC has already said it would fight these legally, adding that the BJP is left with no allies except investigating agencies like the CBI and Enforcement Directorate.
