Reigning president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly has suffered a heart attack. Hospitals sources say that he was hospitalised in Kolkata after he complained of chest pain, reports PTI.

As per reports, Ganguly is presently admitted at the Woodlands Hospital. However, he continues to remain stable while he is scheduled to undergo angioplasty. Further details are awaited.

Renowned journalist, Boria Majumdar, sent out a tweet, saying, “He felt dizzy when he was in the gym and he went to Woodlands to get the Tests done. That’s when it came to light that there was a cardiac issue and the hospital has now created a three-member board with Dr Saroj Mondal who will perform the procedure.”

Ganguly, who is currently aged 48, was rushed to an emergency ward on Friday evening. "He is stable now. We are checking whether this pain is due to some cardiac problem or not. He requires to undergo several tests," an official was quoted as saying by PTI.

It all happened after an early morning workout session, as he felt an uneasiness in his chest. “After finishing his gym he felt some uneasiness,” said Ganguly’s brother, Snehasish, to ESPNCricinfo.

Meanwhile, the hospital said in a statement, “When he came to the hospital at 1 pm, his pulse was 70min, BP 13080 mm of Hg and other clinical parameters were within normal limits. He has received loading doses of dual antiplatelets and statin and is undergoing primary angioplasty now.”

Ganguly has had an illustrious career for Team India. Being a former skipper, the southpaw has scored over 18,000 international runs in over 400 matches, across formats.

Ganguly has also played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for a couple of franchise. He was elected as the president of the BCCI in 2019, while he continues to serve as the same despite his tenure expiring, as the board awaits Supreme Court's decision on his term extension.
