Shreyas Iyer is one of the rising stars for Team India, especially as a middle-order batsman. He is currently nursing a partially dislocated shoulder that has ruled him out of the ongoing three-match One-Day Internationals against England and the first half of the Indian Premier League.

India’s reliable middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has suffered a hard fate, as he has a partially dislocated shoulder. As a result, he has been ruled out of the ongoing three-match One-Day International series against England, while he is also set to miss the first half of the upcoming Indian Premier League.

Iyer, who leads Delhi Capitals in the IPL, suffered the injury during the opening ODI on Tuesday. During the eighth over of the English chase, Iyer dived in at extra cover to save Jonny Bairstow’s boundary. However, he landed awkwardly on his left shoulder and was in visible discomfort before being taken off the field by the physio, while he did not take the field any further.

On Wednesday evening, it was revealed that Iyer had been ruled out of the series remainder, along with IPL’s first half for DC. Furthermore, Team India did not name a replacement for him, while DC, too, continues to monitor the situation before taking a final call on his possible replacement.

Meanwhile, Iyer took to his Twitter handle to thank the fans for their wishes, besides vowing to make a stronger comeback. “I’ve been reading your messages and have been overwhelmed by all the outpouring of love and support. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone. You know what they say; the greater the setback, the stronger the comeback. I shall be back soon,” he wrote. In reply to Iyer’s tweet, DC wrote, “We’re all right behind you, skip.”

Also, the official broadcaster of the ongoing series and the IPL wished Iyer a speedy recovery. “Get well soon, Shreyas! We can’t wait to cheer for you on the field again,” wrote Star Sports.

As of now, it seems like wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who is also the vice-captain of DC, is likely to take up the leadership role. In the meantime, senior opener Shikhar Dhawan could take up the vice-captaincy duties until Iyer comes back.
