Sam Curran has been a part of Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021. However, he has injured his lower back, thus ruling him out for the tournament remainder and the upcoming ICC World T20 in UAE.

English all-rounder Sam Curran would not be a part of former champion Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) remaining campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. He has suffered a lower back injury, thus ruling him out of the tournament remainder in the United Arab Emirates.

He would also be missing England’s campaign in the ICC World T20, starting October 17 in the gulf. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the development, besides stating that his brother Tom Curran would be replacing him, while Reece Topley would be travelling as a reserve.

“Curran complained of back pain after Chennai Super Kings Indian Premier League fixture on Saturday against Rajasthan Royals. Results of the scan revealed the injury. He will fly back to the UK in the next couple of days and will have further scans and a full review later this week from the ECB’s medical team,” said ECB in a statement.

During the game against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Curran reportedly suffered the injury, which CSK lost by seven wickets on Saturday. While he did not bat, he conceded 55 runs in his designated four overs.

Curran has played just a couple of matches in the UAE leg of IPL 2021, conceding 111 runs in eight overs, while the CSK management has preferred fast-bowling all-rounder Dwayne Bravo over him. On the other hand, Tom is contracted to RR and is yet to feature in the gulf, while he recently bagged ten wickets from eight games of The Hundred, playing for Oval Invincibles.

“The England players and management not at the IPL arrived at their Muscat base earlier today and will remain in Oman until 16 October before moving to Dubai for the start of the tournament,” ECB added in the statement. England opens its account against defending champion Windies on October 23, while it has been placed in Group 1 of Super 12s, alongside Australia, South Africa and a couple of qualifiers.
