Ravichandran Ashwin wins ICC Player of the Month award for February 2021

Ravichandran Ashwin has transformed himself into an all-rounder after initially starting as an off-spinner. He was on a roll against England, claiming 34 wickets in the entire four-Test series. As a result of his performance, he was adjudged as the Man of the Series.

Indian all-rounder has been in a distinctive form in the longest format. He managed to annihilate England with his off-spins, thus allowing England to win the four-Test series and retain the Anthony de Mello Trophy.

Owing to Ashwin’s prolific performance in the series, he had been adjudged the Man of the Series. Meanwhile, the International Cricket Council honoured him by declaring him the Player of the Month.

Ashwin managed to claim 34 wickets against England and finished as the highest wicket-taker in the series, including three fifers. Besides claiming his 400th Test wicket, he also contributed with the bat, scoring 189 runs and hitting a century.

“Ashwin’s consistent wicket-taking, even in helpful conditions, have helped to put his team ahead in a very important series. His century in the second Test was as critical as it came when England were trying to claw their way back into the match. That knock ensured that India shut the door on the opposition,” said Ian Bishop, who represents the ICC Voting Academy.

Besides Ashwin, England’s Tammy Beaumont was awarded the Women’s Player of the Month award. She played three One-Day Internations during the month and scored 231 runs.
