India and England engage in tough competition in the second Test for the Pataudi Trophy 2021 at Lord's in London. Day 1 on Thursday essentially went in India's favour, as here are the scripted records.

On Thursday, it was all about India on Day 1 of the second Test for the 2021 Pataudi Trophy at Lord's in London. Thanks to KL Rahul's unbeaten century, India has finished on 276/3, while plenty of records were scripted as we take a look.

Rohit Sharma and Rahul script records aplenty
The Indian opening pair of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul contributed to a 126-run opening stand. Consequently:
- It was the first 100-plus opening stand at the venue since 114 between Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook in 2008.
- Since 2011, it was also India's first 100-plus opening stand outside Asia since Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir 137 against South Africa in 2010.
- It was only India's second 100-plus opening stand in England.
- Also, since 2011, it is the first time that on five occasions in a year, an Indian opening pair has survived the opening 20 overs.
- Furthermore, it was the first time since 2011 that both the Indian openers had scored 50-plus in a Test innings outside Asia.
- Moreover, it was only the fourth instance of both openers scoring 75-plus in a Test innings outside Asia.
- Besides, their opening stand of 126 was the best by an Indian opening pair in England after being replaced by a regular opening pair. The best happens to be 128 between Michael Slater and Mark Taylor in 1993.

Rohit's highest away from home
Rohit played a valiant knock of 83. In the same light, it was his highest Test score away from home, bettering his score of 79 against Sri Lanka in 2015.

James Anderson continues love story against India
Anderson dismissed both the opening batsmen. Consequently, it was his 30th wicket against India at the venue, thus becoming the most successful bowler against the side at the same, going past Muttiah Muralitharan's 29 in Colombo.

Rahul joins Virender Sehwag and many more
Rahul scored his sixth Test century today. Consequently:
- It was his fourth Test ton outside Asia, as he became the join second-most Test century scorer as an Indian opener outside Asia, along with Sehwag. The list is led by Sunil Gavaskar (15).
- Also, he became the third Indian opener to score a century at Lord's after Vinoo Mankad (184) and Ravi Shastri (100), besides being the tenth Indian to do so.
- He is also only the second Indian after Navjot Singh Sidhu (116 vs Windies) to score a Test ton on the opening day outside Asia, batting first.

Match summary
Winning the toss, England invited India to bat, as the decision seemingly backfired. The openers were off to a terrific start, posting a 100-plus stand, while Rahul scored an unbeaten century to allow India to finish on top at stumps on Day 1.
Brief scores: India 276/3 (Rohit- 83, Rahul- 127*; Anderson 2/52) vs England.
