The 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) is witnessing an average performance from record five-time former champion Mumbai Indians (MI), led by senior opener Rohit Sharma. In seven fixtures, it has lost four and won three, while it is placed seventh in the points table. Also, Rohit has struggled both as a captain and a batter.
Meanwhile, Rohit has a vital task post-IPL, as he will lead Team India in the 2021-23 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia at The Oval in June. However, for the Indians to come out on top, Rohit has to deliver, and he needs to be fresh. And, for that to happen, legendary former Indian Little Master Sunil Gavaskar feels that the MI skipper should take a break from IPL 2023.

Interacting with IPL 2023's official broadcaster, Gavaskar cited, "I would like to see some change in the batting order [for MI]. I would also say Rohit should take a break for now and keep himself fit for the World Test Championship [Final]. [He can] come back again for the last few matches, but right now, [he should] take a little bit of a hiatus himself."

"He [Rohit] is looking just that little bit preoccupied. Maybe, at this stage, he is thinking about the WTC [Final]. But, I believe that at this stage, he needs a little bit of a break and come back for the last three or four matches so that he is in rhythm for the World Test Championship [Final]," concluded Gavaskar, reports ESPNCricinfo.
