Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer has suffered a setback after partially dislocating his shoulder during the recently-concluded One-Day Internationals against England. As a result, he has been ruled out of the upcoming Indian Premier League, starting on Friday, where he leads Delhi Capitals.

Meanwhile, Iyer underwent successful surgery on the shoulder on Thursday. While he is expected to be out of action for at least four months, he has vowed to make a quick return.

"Surgery was a success and with lion-hearted determination, I’ll be back in no time 🦁 Thank you for your wishes 😊" wrote Iyer on social media.

Iyer had also signed a deal with English county side Lancashire for the domestic one-day competition. However, he is unlikely to feature in it either.

Meanwhile, Iyer has been replaced by wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant as the captain of DC. It would be Pant's maiden IPL stint as the captain.

DC finished as the runner-up last season, losing to Mumbai Indians in the final. The side is yet in the hunt for its maiden IPL title.
