IPL 2021: Rohit Sharma fined ₹12 lakh for Mumbai Indians' slow over-rate against Delhi Capitals

Rohit Sharma is an Indian opener who currently plays for and leads Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. He has helped the side win a record five IPL titles, as MI is the defending champion of IPL 2021. Currently, MI is placed fourth in the points table.

“Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on April 20. As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Sharma was fined Rs 12 lakh,” said IPL in a statement.

As per the new laws, a captain of the side would be fined ₹12 lakh for the first slow over-rate offence. Meanwhile, if Rohit is to repeat the same in the next game, he could be fined doubled the previous amount, besides being under the threat of receiving a two-game ban.

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni had been fined a similar amount after falling short of the minimum over-rate in the opening game against DC. MI has currently played four games and has won and lost a couple each. It is now placed fourth in the table, while DC has risen to the second, as Royal Challengers Bangalore stays atop the table.
