IPL 2021: Muttiah Muralitharan undergoes angioplasty, discharged from hospital

Muttiah Muralitharan is a legendary former spinner from Sri Lanka who holds the record of claiming the most Test wickets. He is currently the bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad. He retired from the sport in 2010, having claimed 1,347 international wickets.

Former Sri Lankan spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan is on his road to a healthy life once again after undergoing a successful coronary angioplasty at Apollo Hospital in Chennai. As of Monday, he has been discharged from the hospital.

Murali was admitted to the hospital on Sunday for his cardiac evaluation. He is currently the bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad and is on Indian Premier League 2021 duty.

"He underwent successful coronary angioplasty with stents yesterday under the care of Dr G Sengottuvelu, senior interventional cardiologist. He would resume his normal activities," said Apollo Hospitals in a statement, reports PTI.

As of now, Murali would undergo a mandatory seven-day quarantine since he has been out of the team bubble. After a negative COVID report following the quarantine, he would join SRH for the season duties.

Murali has been associated with SRH since IPL 2016. He also played for three IPL franchises until 2014, with Royal Challengers Bangalore being his last IPL side.
