IPL 2021: KL Rahul to undergo surgery for acute appendicitis

KL Rahul is an Indian wicketkeeper-opening batsman who is currently the captain of Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League. He has been playing for PBKS since 2018 and has been leading it since 2020. He has played for three sides in the IPL to date.

In what comes as shocking news for Punjab Kings and Indian cricket fans, KL Rahul has been diagnosed with acute appendicitis. Furthermore, to treat it, he is to undergo surgery.

According to PBKS, Rahul complained of severe abdominal pain and was rushed to a hospital before being diagnosed for the same. Consequently, he is likely to miss the remainder of the tournament for the side, as recovery following the surgery usually takes around three weeks.

"KL Rahul complained of a severe abdomen pain last night and after not responding to medication, he was taken to the emergency room for further tests, which revealed that he was diagnosed with acute appendicitis. It will be resolved surgically and for safety measures, he has been transferred to the hospital for the same," said PBKS in a statement.

Rahul has been in a glorious form in the tournament, currently being the highest run-scorer, having scored 331 runs in seven innings at an average of 66.20, including four half-centuries.
