Roy had opted out of the IPL 2020 campaign for Delhi Capitals, citing personal reasons. He was replaced by Aussie pacer Daniel Sams, while an unstable form prompted the former to be released by the franchise ahead of the 2021 auction, where he remained unsold with a base price of ₹2 crore.

Furthermore, bringing in Roy as an opener would give extra leverage to its fierce Aussie opener David Warner. Also, the former is likely to come in handy with Kane Williamson and his English teammate Jonny Bairstow.

As for Marsh, he reportedly seems to have an issue with the mandatory seven-day quarantine upon arrival in India. Also, staying in the bubble for nearly two months during the tournament's entire tenure has had him wonder about his mental health, which could be affected.
