Meanwhile, Karthik has recently confirmed a substantial cricketing plan overseas. While he would not be involved as a player, he would take part in The Hundred's commentary after IPL 2021.

The Hundred is a new format, with the opening season to be played this year, which primarily involves 100 balls. The event is the brainchild of the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Karthik would not be allowed to participate as a player due to a longstanding norm by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. However, he would be commentating for the same for official broadcasters Sky Sports, for which he does not require permission from the BCCI. Karthik would join Kumar Sangakkara, Stuart Broad, Kevin Pietersen, Wasim Akram and Andrew Flintoff.

Karthik broke the news on Twitter, where he wrote, "I am back with @SkyCricket this summer. This time for the newest format of the game '𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐝'. Balls Thrill Looking forward to joining the amazing team at Sky Sports in England for @thehundred!"

The Hundred would be played involving eight sides: Manchester Originals, Manchester Originals, Birmingham Phoenix, Trent Rockets, Welsh Fire, London Spirit, Oval Invincibles and Southern Brave. The actual dates for the tournament are yet to be announced.
