Mumbai Indians is the defending champion of the Indian Premier League 2021. It was MI's opening win of the season after losing the first game. Meanwhile, KKR suffered its maiden loss of IPL 2021 after winning its opener. While MIis placed second, KKR is at fifth.

In what turned out to be a mysterious comeback by the defending champion, Mumbai Indians tamed former champion Kolkata Knight Riders by ten runs in Match 5 of the 2021 Indian Premier League at the MA Chidambaram (Chepauk) Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday.
