IPL 2020: Shane Watson announces retirement from ‘all forms of cricket’

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star player and former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson announced retirement from ‘all formats of cricket.’ He told CSK teammates following their win against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Sunday. Watson had already retired from international cricket in 2016.

Another set back for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), as their star batsman Shane Watson has announced his retirement from ‘all forms of cricket.’ The news came as a surprise to the cricketing fraternity and he would not be seen in the cricket kit anymore.

According to a report in Times of India. Watson, 39, reportedly made his retirement announcement after CSK beat Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in their last league game of IPL 2020.

Even though he had already retired from international cricket in 2016, CSK could foresee his cricketing skills that were still alive in the legendary player. Having immense faith in Watson, CSK bought him during the auctions, ahead of the 2018 IPL season. Indeed, he reciprocated the faith entrusted and smashed a century in the much needed final of the season, which helped CSK clinch the title for the third time.

"Watson was very emotional when he told the CSK dressing room after the last game that he would retire. He said that it was a great privilege for him to play for the franchise,” a source told TOI.

His IPL journey has been quite exciting to watch, where he has played for Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and lately, Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Unfortunately, the 13th edition of the IPL culminated on a drop both for CSK and Watson. CSK, for the first time in the IPL history, failed to qualify for the playoffs. Simultaneously, the season was not that thrilling for Watson himself.
