This was Kings XI Punjab's third win of the Indian Premier League this season in nine matches, as they rise to the sixth spot. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians suffered their third loss of the season in the same number of matches as KXIP, as they stay put on second.

In what turned out to be the most thrilling match in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) beat defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 36 of the ongoing edition. Being played in Dubai, the match took two Super Overs to decide the winner, as KXIP ended up being the winners. Meanwhile, here are the records that were smashed in the process.

Quinton de Kock among an elite: De Kock's knock of 53 was pivotal in leading MI to an above-par total of 1766. Meanwhile, as he scored a half-century, he became the only second batsman in the tournament to play three consecutive 50-plus innings for the side, after Sachin Tendulkar in 2010.

Kieron Pollard hits a dominant one: Pollard played a flamboyant innings of a 12-ball 34, which included four sixes as well. Interestingly, he has also become the batsman to hit the second-most sixes in the 20th over of the competition to date. While Pollard has hit 26-plus, the list is led by MS Dhoni (49).

Trent Boult concedes an unwanted one: Boult was pretty expensive during the powerplay, as he gave away 40 runs off three overs. In the process, he has now given away the most runs during the phase this season.
undefined
KL Rahul scores three powerful ones: While Boult was expensive, it was all due to KXIP skipper KL Rahul going all guns blazing. Apart from his match-winning knock, he scored 32 runs during the PP, which also happened to be the most by a batsman during the phase this season. He has also become the third batsman, and the first Indian, to score 500-plus runs in three consecutive seasons, after Chris Gayle and David Warner. He has also scored the most runs in the tournament since 2018 (1,777).

Glenn Maxwell records a couple of undesired: Maxwell, who is known to be deadly while playing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has not had the best of the season so far. Meanwhile, he was dismissed for an unfortunate duck tonight. In the process, he now has the worst strike-rate of the season among all (92.06). Incidentally, he has also faced the most deliveries this season, without hitting a six (63).

Multiple Super Overs set records tumbling: The IPL 2020 is turning out to be one of the most unique ones. With the two Super Overs today, the edition has become the one with the most Super Overs in history. While there have been four Super Overs this season, the previous best was in 2013 and 2019, which saw a couple each. Meanwhile, it was the first time in the IPL that a match had two Super Overs, besides being the fifth instance in T20 cricket. It also happened to be the second instance of a Super Over being tied in the tournament, after Rajasthan Royals against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2014, in Abu Dhabi. Furthermore, this was the first instance in T20 cricket to have three Super Overs in a day.

Match summary: Winning the toss, MI skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bat, as de Kock's 53, along with Krunal Pandya and Pollard's innings of 34 each, allowed them to post an above-par total of 1766. In reply, it was Rahul's 51-ball 77, along with other fine contributions from the KXIP batsmen, that helped them to tie the match.

Super Over madness: As the match went into the Super Over, KXIP managed to score just six runs, while MI, too, managed to score the same off the final delivery. The second Super Over saw MI bat first, as Pollard's blitz helped them score 11. Nonetheless, it was Chis Gayle and Mayank Agarwal, who did the job for KXIP.
