IPL 2020: David Warner's consistency helps SRH earn playoffs berth, as here are the records shattered

This was Sunrisers Hyderabad's seventh win of the season in 14 matches, as they finish on the third spot of the table. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians suffered only their fifth loss of the season, as they sit comfortably atop the table. Both the teams have qualified for the playoffs.

In what turned out to be a one-sided entertainer, defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) succumbed to their only fifth defeat of the season, against former champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), in Match 56 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. Being played in Sharjah, SRH hammered them by 10 wickets, as both the teams have sealed their berth for the playoffs. Meanwhile, we take a look at the records that were scripted in the process.

Sandeep Sharma claims a couple of specials: SRH pacer Sandeep Sharma claimed 334 in the match, as he has now acquired the third-most wickets during the powerplay this season. Sandeep has claimed nine so far, while he is led by Jofra Archer (10) and Trent Boult (12). Furthermore, he has also claimed the most number of wickets during the phase (53) in the tournament's history, so far, going past Zaheer Khan (52).

Sandeep loves having Rohit Sharma's number:Also, Sandeep has got the number of Rohit on second-most occasions in his IPL career. Rohit, along with Chris Gayle, has fallen to Sandeep on four occasions in the tournament to date. At the same time, Virat Kohli happens to be Sandeep's favourite prey, having been dismissed in seven instances.

Suryakumar Yadav scores a special one: Suryakumar has scored 410 runs this season, so far, while it is the third consecutive season he has scored more the 400. Consequently, he has become the first uncapped Indian to do so.

David Warner hammers yet another one: Warner has managed to score 500 runs this season. In the process, he has become the batsman with most 500-plus runs in an IPL season to date. He has done so on six occasions, going past Kohli, who has done the same in five instances. Also, it was the 23rd instance when Warner was involved in a 100-run stand in the IPL.

MI script a unique one: While MI's 10-wicket defeat tonight was certainly an unwanted one, they have become the first side to win and lose by the same margin in a season. Their win came against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the same ground.

SRH come up with a special one: This was SRH's eighth win against MI in the competition to date, besides suffering eight losses. As a result, they are the second team to have equal wins and losses against the side, after Rajasthan Royals (RR), who have 11 wins and losses each. No current team has more wins than losses against MI. Also, SRH have become the third team to qualify for playoffs on most occasions. While they have done so in five instances, they are led by MI (6) and CSK (8).

Match summary: Winning the toss, SRH skipper David Warner opted to bowl. The decision was the right one, as MI batsmen were shaky right from the start. Nonetheless, Suryakumar (36), along with Ishan Kishan (33) and Kieron Pollard (41), helped MI reach a below-par total of 1498, as Sandeep's 334 rattled them completely. In reply, it was SRH openers' (Warner- 85* and Wriddhiman Saha- 58*) unbeaten stand that helped them through, as they won by 10 wickets and sealed the third spot, thereby earning a playoffs berth.
