India and England are involved in a brutal three-game One-Day International series, which happens to be India's final commitment before the 2021 Indian Premier League. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer leads Delhi Capitals, as his participation for the season is in doubt.

Team India might be off to a resounding start against England after winning the opening One-Day International by 66 runs at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Tuesday. However, it did come at a cost after prolific batsman Shreyas Iyer injured his shoulder while fielding.

During the eighth over of the English chase, Iyer dived in at extra cover to save a boundary off Jonny Bairstow. However, he landed awkwardly on his left shoulder and was in visible discomfort before being taken off the field by the physio, while he did not take the field any further.

Iyer was reportedly taken for a scan, while he was also proclaimed to have suffered a subluxation (partial shoulder dislocation). According to Team India's medical team, the injury could take weeks to heal, while it may also require surgery in some cases.

As a result, it has cast doubts on Iyer's participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League, which begins April 9. He is the captain of the Delhi Capitals that finished as the runner-up last season.

Meanwhile, in another injury concern, senior opener Rohit Shrama suffered a blow to his elbow while batting, as he did not take the field during the English chase. However, his injury is not deemed as serious as Iyer's and he should be able to play in the second ODI on Friday.
