Australia take really long to get off the mark: In an interesting observation, it took Australia 28 deliveries to score their opening run during their innings. Consequently, it was the first time in this century that they took so long to get off the mark.

Ravichandran Ashwin produces one of the best outside Asia: Off-spinner Ashwin just nailed it with figures of 455, and that too on Day 2 when the pitch was not expected to turn. Nonetheless, it happened to be his fourth-best innings figures outside Asia. His best happens to be 783 against the Windies, in North Sound, in 2016.

Australia script yet another unwanted for the first time: Australia failed to take the lead, as they fell behind by 53 runs. It happened to be the first time in their eight day-night Tests that they have been unable to do so in the first innings. Kudos, India.

A rare outing by captains in the first innings: The first innings saw the captains from both the sides playing the best knocks, scoring 50-plus scores (Virat Kohli 74 and Tim Paine 73). In an unusual observation, it was the third instance of only the captains doing the same in the first innings. The other two cases happen to be K Rutherford (63) and M Azharuddin (63) in 1994, and L Hassett (52) and F Brown (62) in 1950.
