On June 12, news emerged about a 28-year-old man being beaten to death by a mob in Assam's Tinsukia district on suspicions of cow theft.
Outrage was expected over the crime. But the crime took a communal turn with the narrative being changed to, "28-year-old Muslim man beaten to death by a Hindutva mob in Assam's Tinsukia district".
The altered narrative was shared widely on social media.
The reality, though, was something else altogether.
One of the altered tweets came from journalist CJ Werleman who later deleted the tweet once Assam Police Special DGP GP Singh debunked his narrative.

The police officer further said that 10 individuals from the Hindu community involved in the assault on Bharat Moran had been arrested.
