The 42-year-old took a test after symptoms appeared and will now isolate for seven days, the Elysée Palace said in a statement.
France's President Emmanuel Macron has tested positive for Covid-19, his office said adding that he would now self-isolate for the next week.
"The president tested positive for COVID-19 today (Thursday)," the French presidency said in a statement. He had been tested after the "onset of the first symptoms," the statement further mentioned.

It is not yet known how Macron caught the virus but his office said it was identifying those he had been in close contact with to inform them of the situation.
Macron "is still in charge" of running the country and will work remotely, said an official. French President will cancel all his forthcoming trips, including a scheduled visit to Lebanon, after being diagnosed with COVID-19, a French presidency spokeswoman told Reuters.
The French President is one of several heads of state and government around the world who have contracted Covid-19, including British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and US President Donald Trump.
France reported 17,615 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, the biggest spike in COVID-19 count since 21 November. The country has been severely affected by the coronavirus pandemic. It has registered 2,409,062 cases since the outbreak.
