
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently revealed a long list of new members invited to join the prestigious film body. A few names that caught our attention were of actress Vidya Balan and TV czarina Ekta Kapoor among the other few invitees of the Academy's "Class of 2021".
Vidya Balan, Ekta Kapoor, and her mother Shobha Kapoor, also producers, are among the 395 new members who made their way from 50 countries. The Class of 2021 comprises 46 per cent of new woman invitees, 53 per cent 39% of ethnic representation and 53 per cent of international members from 49 countries other than the USA.
The Academy has recognised Vidya Balan for stellar performances as the 2021 mystery thriller Kahaani and the 2017 family drama Tumhari Sulu. Vidya Balan's impressive resume and extraordinary career graph include Paa, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Parineeta, Bobby Jasoos, Shakuntala Devi and many more.
She won the best actress National Award for her performance in The Diry Picture in 2011. Meanwhile, Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, who own the Balaji Telefilms, has also been recognised by the Academy for making films such as Dream Girl, Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, Udta Punjab and Dirty Picture.
The list of actors who received invites from the Academy also includes Andra Day, Vanessa Kirby, Robert Pattinson, and Yuh-Jung Youn. The list of Academy's new members also has as many as 89 previously Oscar-nominated names, out of which 25 of them are Oscar-winners.
Last year, actors such as Alia Bhatt and Hrithik Roshan were invited to become new Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences members as part of a list comprising 819 names. The 94th Academy Awards are expected to be held on March 27 next year.
