Yesterday, Chhattisgarh High Court acquitted a 37-years-old man accused of marital rape. The court reportedly ruled that sexual intercourse or any sexual activity by a man with his legally wedded woman who is not under 18 is not considered rape, even if it is against a woman's wish or forced.
As soon as the Chattisgarh High Court passed the judgment, many social media users and celebrities started reacting. Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu, who has always shared her opinions and views, also reacted to judgement over a case of marital rape.
Taapsee retweeted a news clip from a TV channel on the same on Twitter and wrote, "Bas ab yehi sunna baaki tha (This was all that was left to hear)."
Bollywood singer Sona Mohapatra also wrote, "The sickness I feel reading this #India, is beyond anything I can write here." This judgement has created a row on social media.
Earlier, Taapsee had also given out a strong reaction to the Supreme Court's statement saying an accused would marry the minor girl he alleged raped. To which the actress had tweeted, "Did someone ask the girl this question ? If she wants to marry her rapist !!!??? Is that a question !!!??? This is the solution or a punishment ? Plain simple DISGUST!"
