'Pathinonnam Sthalam': Three journeys into Kerala's tribal heartland

Synopsis

Under the cover of rich greenery and beyond the serene beauty of tea gardens, Wayanad, one of the most sought after tourism destinations in Kerala, keeps a shameful secret- the ruthless exploitation of tribal people. It reveals the plight of the original inheritors of the land who were systematically uprooted from the tribal heartland of Kerala.

'Pathinonnam Sthalam', a film by ‘Keraleeyam Collective,’  is an attempt to address the complexity of problems that are comfortably sidelined in the name of development and tourism promotion Wayanad. The narrative follows the road movie genre and touches the problems of deprivation, environmental issues and threats on the survival of the tribal people.

Directed by Ranjith Chittade and produced by Asokan Nambazhikkad, the movie narrates the plight of the indigenous community in Wayanad who have been displaced from their roots. It also highlights issues like land encroachments, illegal investments, land movements and issues in the plantation industry.

The story revolves around three journeys on a single day through hairpin curves of Wayanad.
