The poster was released on Mohanlal's Facebook page. The poster shows Mohanlal in a young avatar, with a trendy hairdo and an enigmatic smile.

According to Times Of India, the story is about Odiyan, people belonging to a tribal community of Palakkad-Malabar region. In an interview, the director said, "The movie is set in the pre-electricity days, and revolves around the life of an Odiyan. The Odiyans were hired to scare people in the dark. If you have an enemy, you could call the Odiyans and ask them to scare him off. You give them 'Odi' which is a ritual where you give them a particular fee and some liquor. They would dress up as some animal and scare the person in the dark."

He also added, "Odiyans do not have any aim to kill others. It is to be noted that the Odiyan tribe is now extinct."

In the movie, Mohanlal plays the last surviving Odiyan from the rural Kerala. Odiyan also has Manju Warrier in the female lead, along with Prakash Raj in a significant role. The music is by M. Jayachandran, and the action scenes are choreographed by the stunt director of Pulimurugan, Peter Hein.

Produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Odiyan will be shot at various locations of Palakkad, Pollachi, Udumalpet, Banaras, and Hyderabad. The movie has been scripted by Harikrishnan, who won the National Award for his script for Kutty Srank.
