Expressing his views on the controversial topic of 'National Anthem', actor Mohanlal said there is no harm in standing for a few seconds when National Anthem is played in theatres.
Speaking to Manorama News Mohanlal said the practice is not something that must be objected and unnecessary controversies regarding this should be avoided.
"By standing up when the National Anthem is played, one is also respecting cinema", said the actor.
It is not for the first time the actor has conveyed his thoughts on nationally debated issues. When the Jawaharlal Nehru University row was at its peak, the actor's comments urging people to respect their right to freedom and soldiers who valiantly fight to defend the country has triggered widespread reactions. Also, his blog supporting demonetization was met with strong reactions from various quarters.
On 30 November, the Supreme Court had made National Anthem mandatory at cinema halls across the country before each screening which had raised protest from a section.
