Mainstream actresses are scared of grandma roles: dubbing star Bhagyalekshmi

Synopsis

Bhagyalekshmi is a three-time state award winner for dubbing. Her autobiography ‘Swarabhedangal’ has won Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award. The artist recently appeared in two Mollywood films.

Renowned dubbing artist Bhagyalekshmi, who entered the filmdom in search of an acting career three decades back, said that mainstream actresses shun elderly characters as they are afraid of being typecast.

"I am very comfortable with my age. My elder son is 29. So it’s not difficult to guess my age,” Bhagyalekshmi told  Malayala Manorama.  “If Anoop Menon (Mollywood actor) who is younger to me could play an old man, why should I hesitate to take up grandma roles," she said.

The three-time state award winner for best dubbing artist, Bhagyalekshmi recently published her autobiography titled ‘Swarabhedangal’ along with the first-ever audio version of a book in Malayalam. The book went on to win Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award. The candid book that openly talked about her turbulent personal and professional life was sold out like hot cakes.
