Malayalam short film 'Chemanna Petti' (The Red Box) has been selected for this year's New York City International Film Festival.

 

Directed by Pius Scaria Pottenkulam, 'Chemanna Petti' tells the story of a postal woman, who mans the unique Vembanad Lake Post Office alone.

 

The 13.5-minute-long documentary is based on a report that appeared in The Hindu around 10 years ago and focuses on clerk VP Seethamani who dons several roles at the post office.

 

'Chemanna Petti', which throws light on the changes the Indian postal system has seen over the years, was also selected for the Delhi Shorts International Film Festival last year.
