Filmmaker Santosh Gupta's wife Asmita and daughter Srishti died by setting themselves on fire at their home in Mumbai's suburban Andheri's DN Nagar.

According to reports, Gupta's wife and daughter allegedly died by committing suicide. A police report on Wednesday named the deceased as Asmita Gupta and Srishti Gupta. Mrs Gupta, who was 55-years-old took the drastic step as she was suffering from a prolonged kidney ailment. 

And her daughter Srishti killed herself because of the trauma of her mother's illness. Both set themselves aflame on Monday (April 5) afternoon in their apartment. 

PTI report says the incident came to light when their neighbours summoned fire brigades. Both were rushed to Cooper Hospital, Asmita was declared dead on arrival, and Srishti suffered 70 per cent burns and died a day later at Airoli National Burns Centre.
