Hailing from a small village in Edappal, Padmini joined School of Fine Arts Chennai and produced some promising works. Though she was grown up in a conservative background,  her paintings are known for their aesthetics and boldness. She conducted painting exhibitions in Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.

The film, titled 'Padmini', is directed by writer Susmesh Chandroth who also scripted the movie. The writer spent more than a year researching on the life of the late artist before scripting the biopic.
