Besides Sherni, Sardar Udham, South films Nayattu, Mandela shortlisted for India's official entry for Oscar

Apart from Vidya Balan's Sherni and Vicky Kaushal's Sardar Udham, two South Indian movies named Nayattu and Mandela have been shortlisted for India's official entry for Oscar 2022. Take a look at the complete details here.


Two Bollywood movies have been shortlisted for India's official entry to the Oscars. Kahaani actress Vidya Balan's Sherni and Vicky Kaushal's Sardar Udham have been shortlisted for India's official entry for Oscar 2022. Besides that, two south movies titled Nayattu and Mandela have also been shortlisted. All these films will be screened at Calcutta's Bikoli cinema. The jury panel will select one movie which will be nominated under the category of best international feature film from India.

Talking about Nayattu, the political thriller movie has the stellar cast of Joju George, Nimisha Sajayan and Kunchacko Boban in pivotal roles. The film was directed by  Martin Prakkat and was released last year. Talking about the Tamil movie Mandela it has Yogi Babu who essays the role of a barber. The story further talks about how he gets influenced by politicians in his village. The movie is named after late South African President Nelson Mandela. The film was released last year on an OTT platform.

The Academy Awards, also known as Oscars, will be held in March 2022 in the USA. Reportedly a 15-member jury panel led by filmmaker Shaji N Karun will watch the 14 films shortlisted from the country in Calcutta.

Talking about Vicky's movie Sardar Udham the film has been released on an OTT platform. The story's plot talks about  Sardar Udham Singh, who had avenged the Jallianwallah Bagh massacre by killing  Lt Gov Michael O'Dwyer, who was Punjab's Lt Gov back then. The Uri actor has received a lot of appreciation for playing the role of Sardar Udham Singh. Vidya Balan in Sherni, on the flip side, essays the role of a forest officer whose main task is to catch a tigress in a village. The movie has shown the conflict between man and animal.
