Bengaluru boy's film 'The Road to Kuthriyar' reaches Busan film festival

In a matter of pride, Bengaluru's young talent Bharat Mirley's film has been selected for screening at Busan International Film Festival. The director says that his project 'The Road to Kuthriyar' docu-fiction is filmed on a forest and the equation between tribesman and a youth who grew up in an urban area who is set out into the woods for research.

The Busan International Film Festival to be held in October will have an Indian film made by Bengaluru boy, Bharat Mirle.

Since the subject, the relationship between a tribesman and an urban researcher is close to his heart, Mirle also produced the film which is 114-minute film.

Now getting selected for screening at the Busan International Film Festival is nothing short of a dream come true for filmmakers like him.

Talking to Asianet Newsable, Mirle said, "Making a film and putting it out into the world is a humbling experience that comes with a spectrum of emotions. Especially since I am the producer of this film as well. It is exhilarating, but can be quite frustrating at times too. To receive recognition from an institution as prominent as the Busan festival is certainly reassurance that I’m on the right track and is a huge morale boost for the future,"

Divulging a few details about the project, the director said that The Road to Kuthriyar is a work of docu-fiction and many characters in the film are real.

The film follows Dhruv - a wildlife researcher as he conducts a foot survey of the Kodaikanal wildlife sanctuary and focuses on the unlikely friendship that he forms with the tribesman he recruits as his guide - Dorai. He contended that most of the film is based on true events.

Film making during pandemic was a hurdle: Mirle 

As per the director, most of the film was shot in 2019, but the last schedule, which was supposed to happen in June 2020, was disrupted by the pandemic. And again in November 2020, the of the remaining part were completed.

The film is made in two languages English and Tamil with subtitles and the director hopes to bring laurels to Bengaluru in Busan when it gets screened.
