Veteran actor Annu Kapoor looks back on his 44-year journey in entertainment, expressing gratitude to his brother Ranjit Kapoor, Prakash Jha, and the Azmi family for their crucial support during his early years in the industry.

Veteran actor Annu Kapoor looked back on his four-decade-long journey in the entertainment industry, expressing gratitude to the people who helped him during the early years of his career. Speaking to ANI after completing 44 years in the industry, Kapoor recalled the support he received from his elder brother Ranjit Kapoor, filmmaker Prakash Jha and the Azmi family.

Reflecting on how his journey began and the people who stood by him, Kapoor said, "First of all, the people who brought me here, my elder brother, Ranjit Kapoor, I got his message from Delhi. And that message was given by Prakash Jha to me. When I called him, he said, go, Ranjit has called you." He went on to explain how his elder brother became the bridge to his early opportunities in theatre. "So, my elder brother, Ranjit Kapoor, I came here because of him. Definitely, he became a bridge. And he did a play here, in which legendary, now late Om Puri and I worked. It was called An Enemy of the People, written by Henrik Ibsen. And here is Ranjit Kapoor, my elder brother. Because of him, I got to meet him, I got to know him, and he became a part of me. I am very grateful to him too, and then it is the Azami family," Kapoor said.

The actor also paid tribute to the late Shaukat Kaifi, recalling the affection and encouragement she extended to him during his formative years. "First of all, I would like to take the name of the late Shaukat Kaifi, also credited as Shaukat Azmi, who gave me so much love and blessings. And even then, she gave me support. I used to call her Ammi. She is Shabana Azmi's mother. Today, she is not in this world. May God give peace to her soul. I am grateful to Shabana Azmi, her father, her brother," he said.

On The Work Front

On the work front, Annu Kapoor will next be seen in the comedy 'Uttar Da Puttar'. The makers have unveiled the film's poster, which features Kapoor seated on a toilet mounted atop a giant Vastu-inspired wheel, hinting at the film's unconventional premise. Directed by Ravinder Siwach and based on a story by producer Sandiip Kapur, Uttar Da Puttar revolves around the idea that a person's fortunes can improve by finding the "right direction" in life through Vastu. The film also stars Rukhsar Rehman, Brijendra Kala, Pavan Malhotra, Ishtiyak Khan, Jeeveshu Ahluwalia, Rajendra Sethi, Sumit Gulati and Nitin Arora. 'Uttar Da Puttar' is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on July 24, 2026. (ANI)
