Voting for 71 seats to decide the fate of 1,066 candidates for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections.

Bihar records 51.96% turnout till 5 pm in 1st phase of Assembly polls.

Ahead of the polling, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted saying, "Urge all voters to ensure their participation in this festival of democracy while taking precautions against."

In the first phase, while the RJD is contesting on 42 seats.

RDS's allies -- Congress and CPI-ML -- are contesting on 21 and eight seats respectively. 

The JD(U) and BJP are contesting 35 and 29 seats respectively. 

Their allies -- HAM-S and VIP -- are contesting six seats and one seat respectively.

The fate of eight ministers of the Nitish Kumar cabinet will be decided today.
