Abu Dhabi: After having settled in Abu Dhabi for the last 18 years, a Malayali couple in their 50s was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Thursday night (July 23) at their apartment in Madinat Zayed area.

The victims have been identified as Janardhanan Pattiery, 57, and Minija, 52.  Both hailed from Kozhikode in Kerala.

Their death and alleged financial condition of the deceased post the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has sent shockwaves in Kerala.

While Minija was working as a CA, Janardhanan was said to have been removed from his job. He was an accountant with a travel company. It is reported that the couple recently sold their car.

As per reports, Krishna Kumar VP, president of the Kerala Social Centre, earlier reportedly said the couple lived alone in the UAE capital. And their only son works in Bengaluru.

“Their phones had been switched off and the son, (who is employed in Bengaluru), could not contact them. Based on the couple’s son’s request, police broke open the door and found them dead,” Krishna was quoted as saying.

The victim's son is waiting to receive his parents’ mortal remains.
