Shreyas Iyer is a middle-order batsman for India who recently suffered a partially dislocated shoulder. Consequently, he missed out on leading Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2021. Meanwhile, fans wonder if he would make it to Sri Lanka.

Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer suffered an unfortunate fate after partially dislocating his shoulder during the One-Day International series against England in March. Consequently, he was ruled out of the subsequent Indian Premier League and was replaced by wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant as the Delhi Capitals skipper.

While he underwent surgery on April 8, he was expected to be out of action for at least three months. Meanwhile, fans are wondering if he would be able to recover on time for India’s limited-overs campaign in Sri Lanka in July.

According to a report by Sportstar, Iyer is unlikely to travel to Lanka in July. Meanwhile, the medical team of the Board of Control for Cricket in India is unlikely to rush in Iyer’s return. BCCI aims to have the Indian squad injury-free ahead of the 2021 ICC World T20 in October-November.

In the meantime, the Indian team travelling to Lanka would be a second-string side, without Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and other senior players. The regular senior side would be in England, preparing itself for a five-Test series against England. As a result, either veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan or all-rounder Hardik Pandya would be the ones to lead the side in Lanka, with the series expected to be played between July 13-27, while the likely venue to be the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Furthermore, the parallel Future Tour Program did raise some eyebrows. Nonetheless, BCCI confirmed that it was only the feasible way out, based on the current pandemic and rigid quarantine protocols across nations. “It was bound to happen at some point, with stricter quarantine protocols and limited windows available to respect bilateral cricket commitments,” said an official.
