Will IPL 2021 be MS Dhoni's last? Chennai Super Kings CEO responds

MS Dhoni is the legendary former Indian skipper, having led India to numerous global success. He is also Chennai Super Kings most successful skipper, having won three Indian Premier League titles. Meanwhile, experts contemplate that IPL 2021 could be his last.

Legendary former Indian skipper MS Dhoni has scaled mountainous heights in cricket with Team India. He has also done the same with Chennai Super Kings, helping the side win three Indian Premier League titles.

Consequently, he continues to lead the side to date and is the longest-reigning skipper in the tournament and for the side. As he gears up to do so for the 12th time with CSK, many contemplate that this could be his last IPL season.

CEO's take
Dhoni, who turns 40 in July, is at the twilight phase of his career. Also, his performances seem to be taking a dip. However, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan feels that it could not be so. "I don't think it is going to be his final year. This is my personal view and I don't think we are looking at anybody now," he told The Indian Express.

Dhoni failed to lead CSK to the playoffs last season for the first time, as the side managed to finish at the seventh spot. He could barely contribute 200 runs in 12 innings at an average of 25.00, with no half-centuries.

Meanwhile, 2022 would witness the mega auction. Although CSK vice-chairman N Srinivasan had stated that Dhoni would have been retained during the same, which was earlier scheduled to be held this year, now that it has been postponed to next year, it would be interesting to see if Dhoni is indeed retained. At the same time, a lot would depend on his performance this season.
