Unwanted record 100: Pakistan batsman completes century of ducks

Synopsis

The unwanted record of century of ducks came during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in Dhaka

Dhaka: In the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), a dubious record was claimed by a former Pakistan all-rounder.

During the Dhaka Platoon-Rajshahi Royals, Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi collected a golden duck on Thursday (December 12). Afridi, batting at number seven for Dhaka, was caught by Liton Das off Ravi Bopara. With this, the right-hander claimed an unwanted record.

This was 39-year-old Afridi’s 100th duck in his cricket career across formats including international cricket. Later, he bowled three overs and went wicketless conceding 25 runs.

Batting first, Dhaka were kept to 134/9 in 20 overs. In reply, Rajshahi won by nine wickets. They reached the target in 18.2 overs.

Afridi, who had captained Pakistan in international cricket, had retired from the game but continues to play in Twenty20 domestic leagues.

Looking back at his international career, Afridi was out for zero on 44 occasions, 30 of them in ODIs. In Tests, he was out for nought six times and in T20Is he was sent back to pavilion on zero in eight innings. The rest of the zeroes came in other tournaments.

Afridi, who made his international debut in 1996, he retired after playing 27 Tests, 398 ODIs and 99 T20Is. He scored 11 international centuries (five in Tests, six in ODIs).
