Rishabh Pant tests positive in UK; rest of Team India squad to enter bio-bubble

Synopsis

The cricketer will not be travelling with the team to Durham on Thursday and is in isolation.

In a setback for the Indian cricket team, which is touring England currently, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has tested positive for Coronavirus.

According to reports, the cricketer will not be travelling with the team to Durham on Thursday and is in isolation.

The rest of the 23-man squad will reassemble at Durham in a bio-bubble ahead of the Test series against England next month. The Indian team will take on England in a five-match Test series starting August 4.

The Indian cricket team's tour will begin with a three-day practice Test against Select County XI from July 20. However, given the Covid-19 case, a few players could be unavailable for the match.

BCCI sources confirmed that the Pant, who tested positive last week, was largely asymptomatic and quarantined at an acquaintance's place.

The news of the positive test comes even as BCCI secretary Jay Shah recently warned the Indian contingent in the United Kingdom about the rising cases of Covid-19 there.

The letter had specifically warned team members to avoid mass gathering events like Wimbledon and Euro Cup Championships.

However, Rishabh Pant was spotted at the Wembley stadium with his friends during the Euro Cup.

According to reports, the cricketer has been infected with the Delta variant, which has been driving up the number of Coronavirus cases in the UK.
