On Monday, Taslima tweeted, "If Moeen Ali were not stuck with cricket,  he would have gone to Syria to join ISIS."

To note, Moeen Ali was part of the England squad that lifted the 2019 World Cup with England. He will be soon seen in action with the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League 2021.

It is believed that Taslima's remark came over reports that Ali had made a request to the Chennai franchise to remove an alcohol brand logo from his match jersey. Team CEO Kasi Viswanathan has rubbished the reports, stating that the cricketer never made any such request.

The remark instantly drew sharp criticism, with some even wondering why Twitter was hosting such hateful remarks.

Shame on you . You will be remembered as a garden variety bigot not a writer, certainly not a rationalist or feminist. https://t.co/tjjeheBmdJ

Reporting this tweet for its hateful content.

But yes, also tagging and to stand by Moeen Ali who is being targeted & labeled a terrorist for his religious beliefs.

As the anger refused to subside, Taslima issued a clarification.

Haters know very well that my Moeen Ali tweet was sarcastic. But they made that an issue to humiliate me because I try to secularize Muslim society & I oppose Islamic fanaticism. One of the greatest tragedies of humankind is pro-women leftists support anti-women Islamists.

The tweet, however, did not help the writer's cause.

England pace bowler Jofra Archer responded to Taslima, saying: "Sarcastic? No one is laughing, not even yourself ... the least you can do is delete the tweet."
