On Tuesday, India came up with an unexpected fightback against England on Day 5 of the second Test for the Pataudi Trophy 2021 at Lord's in London. The visitor managed to beat the host by 151 runs, thanks to Mohammed Siraj's four-wicket haul.
India had been put to bat first, getting bundled for 364 on Day 2, while England managed 391 by Day 3. As India began its second innings on Day 4, it was a slow and shaky performance, as it finished 181/6 at stumps.
Resuming at the overnight score, just 13 runs later, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant departed for 22 after edging it behind to Jos Buttler off pacer Ollie Robinson. At 209, Ishant Sharma was trapped leg-before for 16 by the same man.

However, the arrival of Shami and Bumrah spelt bad news for the English bowlers. No one was effective, be it the seamers, pacers or the spinners, while a few words were engaged between Bumrah and the English side.

The duo batted effectively and sensibly, occasionally going for the loose deliveries, frustrating the bowlers, and piling immense pressure, including skipper Joe Root. By the lunch break, the pair had contributed to a 77-run stand for the ninth wicket, while Shami brought up his second Test half-century, as India extended the lead to 259.

In the post-lunch session, India batted for just nine deliveries before coming up with the declaration. As a result, England was handed a target of 272, with a couple of sessions to play for.

For England, six bowlers were utilised. While pacer Mark Wood was the most effective, spinner Root has been the most economical.
As England came out to bat, with just a run on the board, pacer Bumrah got rid of Rory Burns for a duck after being caught by Mohammed Siraj at mid-off. He was immediately followed by his partner Dominic Sibley in the next over off seamer Mohammed Shami for a duck, too, after being caught behind by Pant.

While the pair of Haseeb Hameed and Root looked to neutralise the opening setbacks, it was 43 runs later when the former fell for a mere nine to pacer Ishant Sharma who trapped him leg-before. Jonny Bairstow came and looked to bat out until the tea with Root, but the former fell for just a couple to Ishant after being trapped leg-before right at the last ball before the break, at 67.
The post-tea session saw a total collapse for the English. At the same score, Root departed for 33 after edging it to Kohli at the slips off Bumrah.

The pair of Buttler and Moeen then contributed 23 before Siraj got rid of the latter for 13, followed by Curran for a duck off the very next delivery at the same score. Then, Buttler and Robinson ensured to bat it out until the end in an attempt to force a draw, contributing 30 runs.

However, at 120, Bumrah got rid of Robinson for nine, trapping him leg-before. Immediately, the next over, Siraj got the job done by getting rid of Buttler (25) and Anderson (0), thus handing India a 151-run victory.

As for the Indians, they utilised five bowlers. While Siraj was the most effective of all, leg-spinner Ravindra Jadeja turned out to be highly economical.
