The start to the ultimate Test was delayed as persistent rains have so far played a spoilsport. The Day 1 of the ICC World Test Championship 2019-21 final between India and New Zealand was washed out at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Friday.
The toss was delayed as overnight rains, followed by tenacious downpours since Friday morning, made the outfield wet. Although television visuals showed that the super soppers and the groundstaff were at work, trying to get the outfield dry and ready to make the play happen, it failed to be effective, as it continued to downpour in the city.

The weather forecast for Day 2 is slightly better, but not reasonable enough, as interruptions could be expected. However, some play is expected to be possible.
While the International Cricket Council has put a reserve day in place until Wednesday, the forecast for that day does not seem promising either. Meanwhile, if the match ends in a draw or a tie, both sides share the honour.
