The visitors decided to bat first and posted a mountainous total of 225/7, thanks to top-order batter Deepak Hooda's cultivated knock of 104. It happened to be his maiden T20I century, while his innings came off 57 deliveries, including nine fours and six sixes at a strike rate of 182.46. He was also involved in a gigantic 176-run stand for the second wicket along with opener Sanju Samson, who slammed a tasteful 77. Consequently, the netizens were delighted by both men.

Indian skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to defend while making three changes to the playing XI. Despite losing Ishan Kishan (3) early, Samson and Hooda nailed it with a 176-run stand. After the partnership was broken, the middle-order collapsed, while it could manage just 15 runs and lost four wickets in the last 13 deliveries, yet finishing at a challenging total of 225/7. Pacer Mark Adair claimed three wickets for the hosts.
