Team India has performed as per the expectations and is off to a steady start with the bat in the 2019-21 ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. On Day 2, on Saturday, India lost just three wickets and has posted 146/3.

With overcast conditions and the impending threat of rain, India cannot eye a big total due to unfavourable situation. Therefore, what is the ideal score India is looking at, with the ball swinging well enough throughout on Day 2 and the same expected on Day 3?

On the same note, batting coach Vikram Rathour has said that a score of around 250 or more should be ideal in the existing conditions. "We would like to score as many runs as possible, but 250-plus will be a reasonable score in these conditions," he said during the post-day press conference, reports PTI.

Rathour was also praising the openers, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, who gave a stable start to the side despite the harsh conditions. "Batting is about scoring runs. Rohit and Gill showed a lot of intent and looked to score wherever they can. Hats off to Virat and Rahane for the manner in which they batted, but a lot of credit should also be given to the openers," he reckoned.

He was also asked if Cheteshwar Pujara was suffering from technical difficulties, having been hit on the helmet for four occasions in the past few Tests. Nonetheless, Rathour brushed aside any such concerns.

"We are not really concerned and he is a good player. I don't think pace is an issue with him. Till he batted, he looked solid and he has a role to play in the team. Today also, he played 50 odd balls. He just needs to convert those starts. It's going to happen very soon," he concluded.
