ICC to conduct emergency meeting to decide CEO Manu Sawhney's future

Synopsis

The International Cricket Council has called for an emergency meeting to decide the fate of the suspended CEO Manu Sawhney. He was suspended in March following allegations of bullying. However, he has denied the charges and is willing to appeal.

Four months after being suspended by the International Cricket Council for allegations of bullying, the council has called for an emergency meeting on Thursday to decide CEO Manu Sawhney's fate. While he has denied the charges against him, he is also willing to appeal if the disciplinary hearing declares him guilty.

The meeting on Thursday would be led by chairman Greg Barclay, who would decide on the conclusion made by the panel and think about outcomes. While a few of the board members have viewed the PwC report prepared, chairman of England and Wales Cricket Board Ian Watmore has also viewed it and called for his suspension.

According to ESPNCricinfo, the PwC report seems to be critical of Sawhney. Also, the report has presented ICC's work culture itself, while the environment in the council has been politicised.

Meanwhile, ICC is expected to conduct a few more meetings in the coming days, with discussions regarding the sport's inclusion in the Olympics being one of the prime agendas. While many feel that including Twenty20 cricket in the Olympics might affect the prestige of the ICC World T20, the T10 format would be discussed for the global spectacle, leading to more teams getting involved. Also, if that is to be the case, ICC must begin promoting the T10 format on a more prominent note at the earliest.

Also, further details regarding the ICC World Test Championship are expected to emerge, while the second division of Test cricket would also be in the discussions. Meanwhile, it is also being reported that nations like Tajikistan, Mongolia, Ivory Coast and Vietnam have applied for Associate Members. At the same time, their applications would be discussed during the Annual General Meeting on July 18.
